Avanti, Marta and Vicky!

01.07.2019 - Hamburg. Germany

Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth have just completed the first part of their plan at the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships as the Italians won their third-straight match at the Red Bull Beach Arena to top their pool and advance to the Round of 32 in Hamburg.

The third step of their campaigns had the Italians playing the German team of Chantal Laboureur and Sandra Ittlinger in front of their home fans, but Marta and Vicky didn’t slow down and topped them 21-17, 21-15 to complete a perfect 3-0 record with no sets dropped on Pool A. The Germans are also going through in second place.

“Our coach did a great job in preparing us for this match,” Menegatti commented. “We served pretty well and our sideout was solid and those were two factors that helped us to win it. But the most important thing to me was that we stuck together and played as a team. That was a pretty good start for us and we just want to keep playing this well in the next rounds.”

Their third pool match was actually a good test from what they could find down the road in Hamburg in the final stages of the tournament.

“We felt a little nervous to start the match because we didn’t know what to expect,” defender Menegatti added. “After we settled we enjoyed it a lot. The energy was amazing and we hope to play some matches in this same atmosphere.”

Canadians twins Megan and Nicole McNamara secured the third spot of the pool and guaranteed their sequence in the tournament with a 21-13, 21-14 triumph over Paraguay’s Michelle Valiente and Pati Caballero.

They may go directly to the Round of 32 or need to play in the lucky loser round before depending on the final results of the other pools. The South Americans are eliminated.
