Reigning World and Olympic champion Laura Ludwig and partner Maggie Kozuch won their pool on set ratio to ensure they will be one of the top-seeded teams in the elimination stages at their home World Championships.
The Germans were never in any trouble in front of a packed Red Bull Beach Arena on Tuesday afternoon against Nigerian qualifiers Francisca Ikhiede and Tochukwu Nnoruga, winning 21-10, 21-9.
Meanwhile, after reporting about Brazil’s dominance this morning, we cleared jinxed the South American powerhouse as Maria Antonelli and Carol Salgado went down in a three-set thriller to Americans Kelley Larsen and Emily Stockman.
The Americans came through 24-22, 14-21, 15-9 to end a run of 19 wins in a row for Brazilian teams at the Rothenbaum.
Despite the defeat, Carol and Maria progressed as pool runners-up, while Larsen/Stockman are likely to be among the best four third-place teams in the tournament and therefore will avoid a lucky loser play-off.
The draw for the elimination stage takes place a 3.30pm CEST.
