Set up by tournament sponsor comdirect, the attraction has a miniature version of Laura, who won the Olympic title in 2016, playing alongside teammate Maggie Kozuch.
The Laura Ludwig Court is surrounded by a miniature stadium – currently empty. To fill the stands, fans from across the world are invited to donate to German charity Deutsche Sporthilfe, which helps support athletes in Olympic disciplines. All the proceeds from the campaign will go towards Deutsche Sporthilfe, and with each donation a figure will be added to the miniature tribune.
Furthermore, the name of each donor will be woven into the jersey for Laura’s last match of the pool play stage at the World Championships.
Laura, who begins the defence of her world title next Friday on the Red Bull Beach Arena, said “Together with my partner comdirect and the Miniatur Wunderland, we will use this campaign to creatively promote Olympic athletes in Germany.
“From my own experience, I know how important this promotion is for the careers of many athletes. Plus, as a native of Hamburg, to have the smallest beach volleyball arena named after me in the world famous Miniatur Wunderland is very special honor. I’m very proud.”
